Nasal Flu Vaccine in Teenagers

The HSE have announced a further roll out of the Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine (LAIV or ‘nasal vaccine’) vaccination programme for 2020/2021. Previously only provided for children between the ages of 2 and 12 years, the expansion has increased the upper age limit to 17 years, in keeping with the advice previously provided by the National Immunisation Advisory Committee (NIAC). This vaccine can now be administered to this older age group, FREE OF CHARGE.

We, at Beechlawn Medical Centre have LAIV stock available to administer to those between the ages of 12 and 17 years and strongly urge parents to consider obtaining this free vaccine for their children. We will also be conducting dedicated nasal flu vaccination clinics in the weeks ahead.

Please see the attached link for further information on the benefit of engaging with this vaccination programme for both the children/young adults themselves, their families and society generally.
